Thanks, but this does not seem to work on Leopard.

1. the UUID (at least on my USB stick) seems to change every time I
insert it:

Note that there does not seem to be any UUID assigned for the 'Mobile
Partner' read-only hfs volume on the same stick :-(

I also notice that I have no 'diskarbitrationd' log messages

> vadeMACum:~ mathias$ sudo ps axu | grep arb
> mathias  15844   0.8  0.0    75452    380 s007  S+   12:26PM   0:00.00 grep arb

> root        28   0.0  0.0    99704   1832   ??  Ss   Mon05PM   1:07.32 /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/Car bonCore.framework/Versions/A/Support/fseventsd

I then tried this:

> vadeMACum:~ mathias$ cat /etc/fstab
> LABEL=MK\040E180\040USD none    msdos   rw,noauto
> LABEL=Mobile\040Partner none    hfs     noauto

which seems to have done the trick..

(Note the use of \040 for spaces !!
Quoting like so: LABEL="Mobile Parter" won't work!)

After this however the  Disk Utility no longer shows the 'Mobile
Partner' read-only hfs device, so I need to find a way to mount it by
hand if I really need it. mount(8) does not seems to have an option to
specify a volume by label.
