What does =B11*$C$4 mean?

=B11*$C$4 I get the cell value equals cell B11 times——then what's the $ mean, $C$4? I think it means use the value in cell C4, but what do the $ mean?

Mark Rows for scrolling

This seems weird! I mark row 4 and row 1 and click on Freeze Panes. Rows 1-3 become frozen. There's also a black line below Row 6 that acts like another Freeze (Rows 4-6!) Does anybody have an answer to this? Thanks, Doug

I would like to create a workbook in excel to record and store info on all types of coupons that can be sorted by date of expiry, ingredient, store offering etc. I figure that this has probably already been done and that a template should be available but so far I can't find one. I am trying to sum up 37 cells to = 1 each for each cell ex. if i put say 997 in cells i want them to = 1 each so that the sum total = 37 if i put 997 or any other # in cells

Strange Excel problem with Jump List

I am running Windows 7 and Office 2007. When I open an Excel file from the Jump List, none of the commands on the ribbon are clickable. It is just as though the program is frozen. I can make changes to the worksheet but I cannot save them. I can close the program by clicking the "x" in the upper right-hand corner but changes are not saved.... more »

Show top three rows when scrolling

I thought I knew how to do this but it didn't work. I went to Page setup, Sheet and typed in $1:$3 but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance. Doug
